Dead Island 2 is the second installment of the action game series launched in 2011, in which we find ourselves in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. Over the years, the project, announced in 2014, has changed hands. First it was worked on by the Yager Development team (which had previously delivered, among other things, the cult Spec Ops: The Line), then Sumo Digital took charge of the game, and finally the completion of the described production fell to the Dumbuster Studios team (authors of Homefront: The Revolution).
Plot
The action of Dead Island 2 takes place after the events presented in the first installment of the series. The virus that turns people into zombies has reached California. The military, which was supposed to control the situation, failed to complete the task, so it eventually withdrew from Los Angeles. The metropolis was quarantined and its residents were left to fend for themselves. However, it turns out that in the "city of angels" there are people who do not turn into living corpses after being bitten - instead, the disease provides them with a variety of abilities that healthy people can only dream of.
We play the role of one such infected, who, along with other like-minded lucky ones, decides to learn more about the epidemic and get to its source, as well as discover the truth about himself.
Game mechanics
In Dead Island 2, we observe the action from a first-person perspective (FPP). We start the game by choosing one of six characters, each with its own personality, unique dialogue issues and individual set of skills. Next, there is nothing left for us to do but throw ourselves into the vortex of bloody adventures.
The game offers a vast city, divided into smaller locations. In Los Angeles, distinctive places are waiting to be visited - from the picturesque Beverly Hills to the Venice Beach boardwalk. As we traverse the city, we complete tasks pushing the plot forward and perform a variety of side missions. Along the way we slaughter hordes of the living dead, making use primarily of a variety of white weapons. At the same time it is worth remembering that the zombies here are not completely devoid of reason, so they realistically attack and react to what is happening around them. In addition, in addition to cannon meat, which is not very difficult to defeat, much more powerful individuals stand in our way.
As we progress, we develop the characters, learn new abilities and improve the character with special cards collected during the game. Besides, we increase their combat potential by acquiring better and better equipment. The game's built-in crafting system allows you to enrich your weapons with a variety of additional effects; for example, nothing prevents our machete from also dealing damage from electricity.
Game modes
Dead Island 2 can be played solo or in online co-op mode.
Technical aspects
Graphics in Dead Island 2 game present high quality. In particular, the zombies, full of details, can be liked; nevertheless, the visited locations can't be faulted either.
