Horizon: Forbidden West - Burning Shores PS5

Burning Shores is a story add-on for the game Horizon: Forbidden West, released in 2022. It was developed by the creators of the main game - the Dutch studio Guerrilla Games. The ambitious vision behind the DLC did not allow the developer to release it on PS4, so the expansion is available exclusively on PlayStation 5.

Plot

The story of the Burning Shores DLC begins right after the finale of Horizon: Forbidden West. The player once again takes on the role of the red-haired warrior Aloy, who travels to the ruins of Los Angeles, now resembling a volcanic archipelago rather than a city. There, the protagonist must face, among other things, a huge threat from machines. But not only - a host of other dangers also await her. However, the heroine meets many new characters on her way, who help her meet the challenges that await her.

Mechanics

In terms of gameplay, the Burning Shores DLC is essentially no different from what Horizon: Forbidden West offers. The player traverses a sizable open land, completing main quests - which push the storyline forward - and side missions. The latter are a source of both additional experience and valuable items, increasing Aloy's chances in clashes with even the most powerful machines.

Exploration of ruined Los Angeles largely boils down to swimming and diving, as well as flying on the back of the Sunwing - a flying mount familiar from the main game. In combat, on the other hand, Aloy can use all the equipment and weapons she has acquired while traversing San Francisco and Las Vegas, including a bow, spear, hurled javelins, various traps and grenades.

Horizon: Forbidden West - Burning Shores offers a single-player experience only.

Technical aspects

Burning Shores is not a standalone add-on. Consequently, you need to own the basic version of Horizon: Forbidden West to play it. Moreover, due to the technological limitations of the PlayStation 4 and the ambitious vision of the developers behind the DLC, the expansion is only available on the PlayStation 5, although the main game was released on both the PS4 and PS5.
